A New Freeware Velocity Prediction Program for Sailing Yachts
CVPP is a velocity prediction program for cruiser/racer yachts. It is born with the idea to ease
the process of a velocity prediction of a yacht if only main particulars, but no lines drawing are
available. It is based on regression methods for the resistance for the DSYHS and aerodynamic
coefficients from the ORC with some contributions from the Yacht Research Unit Kiel.
CVPP features a point-and-click user interface which is self-explanatory to a quite high degree.
CVPP can easily be used for variational studies, for example small variations of the hull particulars. It allows to optimize a sail wardrobe consisting of a given number of main- and head-sails.
No guarantee. Any user is invited to let me know his experience for further developments.

The development of CVPP has been a major effort of the last year and summarizes many methods that existed as standalone prototypes in the past. However, development of CVPP is not finished. New modules will be added in the future. Any user is strongly urged to provide feedback and I will give my best to add your experience as a component to CVPP.
CVPP is provided as freeware. The current state of the program is able to generate reasonable results for conventional yachts and has been validated to some degree.
CVPP is written in C++ and is very fast. Compared to VPP4, which has been a Matlab prototype, it is about 50 to 100 times faster.
