Nacra 17 VPP

The Nacra 17 VPP is a Matlab-based VPP, which has been developed for the last two Olympic cycles: 2020/1 and 2024.

It has been deveoped and used in cooperation with the German Sailors Association and the German Nacra 17 Olympic team Kohlhoff-Stuhlemmer. The two athletes have been very open-minded towards a theoretical support of their preparation for the games and the VPP has been intensively validated with data and general knowledge from practical sailing.

The VPP is able to predict maximum boat speed for given combinations of TWS and TWA. In addition the trim settings of foils, rudders and rig are given for the optimum state of the catamaran. Boat speed can be predicted for foiling and non-foiling states as well as the transition from one state to the other. Scientific publications are available describing the theory behind the VPP and many results.
